Dead By Wednesday Interview
A review of Dead by Wednesday posted by RocknMetalWriter on December 2, 2008 10:14 PM
When: Dec 3, 2008 Where: Home 1. Introduce yourself, and what is the hidden symbolism behind the name? This is both Ceschi Ramos & Opus together, the main singer & drummer who are actually both 1st cousins in the band Dead By Wednesday. Originally, it came about as part of a term in a sentence regarding the touring life. One time while on the road with one of our older bands Gargantua Soul, we were performing in Puerto Rico & I believe we left on a Monday night & had to fly in & out from a show to play at another live show & then go home & play ANOTHER show so at that point my friend/ex-bassist turned to me and said, "If we keep going like this we are going to be dead by wednesday!" At that point, we was already working on some new music for a newer side project with my cousin Ceschi and we were looking & thinking about band names. Dead By Wednesday just stuck out to me and when it was talked about to others, most people loved it as well. Then, once the band was more developed, Ceschi used the name & concept towards more of an apocalyptic & political theme. 2. Do you feel you are portraying a message to the masses that we can all relate to? Yes, we are trying to unite the youth & all walks of life to have them open their eyes, hearts & minds to different ideas, perspectives & views on styles of music but ALWAYS keeping it heavy but more importantly regarding life. Our lyrics touch upon subjects such as class and racial equality, organized religion, current and historical world affairs, and US politics. 3. Do you have any favourite tracks off any of your albums? On the 1st CD entitled "Democracy is Dead" (2006 on Jamey Jasta's Stillborn Records), some of the stand out tracks were the self titled track "Democracy is Dead" as well as "Resist", "Refuse to Suffer", & the cover of S.O.D.'s song "Kill Yourself". Now, on our second & current full length CD, "The Killing Project", some of our favorite songs are: "Pawns", "Part of Me", "Declaration of Inhumanity", "Violent Tradition", "Society's Blood", & definetely "Chosen", which features guest vocals from Carley Coma of Candiria. 4. If you could switch lives with anyone for 24 hours who would it be and why? Wow, this is a tough question.=2 0Well, I would have to say a toss up between Ozzy & Larz Ulrich of Metallica, so I can try to understand what the fuck happened?? Haha, or Hugh Hefner & of course, I'm sure you know why. 5. What is music for you? Does it bring you some new emotions or it helps you to get ride of some negative emotions? Music is for whatever you need & can get from it BUT most heavy music is usually used as a form of venting or a way to get your frustrations & messages out to the masses. 6. What do you think of your latest album compared to your 2006 album? I think we all feel that this album is progression both musically and lyrically. We all wrote these songs as a band, the entire process was far more cooperative this time around. On our first album a majority of the music was written by Opus with myself (Ceschi) and my brother David handling the majority of the lyrics. This time around every member had a lot more say in the writing and recording process. 7. Why do you think the 80s has enjoyed such a huge comeback? Well, focusing on metal, most classic metal albums came out of the 80s and early 90s. I think metal hit a brick wall for a while there and the new generation is starting to appreciate the true school of metal and hardcore from the generation before ours. People like the guitar solos and rawness that lacked in the Nu Metal era. Opus says some of the earlier 80s metal was more uplifting, in the 90s a lot of the topics were depressing - in our current state of economic woes people want to feel good again. 8. So, at what point on a tour do you get fed up and say "Screw this. I want to sleep in my own bed and I want to shower in my own bath." At what point do you get to where you just can't handle it anymore, where you're done with it and it's time to go home? Do you ever get like that when you're on the road, or is the whole thing always exciting? Ceschi: The road at this stage in the game can really suck away at your life sometimes. There are points when you feel like nothing's worth it anymore, but then there are points when you realize you're changing someone's life with the music you make. In the end you need to have thick skin and a true will to get out th ere and present yourself. Opus: Touring is a necessary evil. Some shows will be great, some ok, and some will suck - mostly being mondays and tuesdays in places far away. It is hard at times to not eat well, barely sleep, drive throughout the night, and rarely shower. But this is what everyone has to do and has done to accomplish success. In the end, when you gain a die hard following and sell cds from it, you realize what you have done is positive. 9. Have any plans for Thanksgiving or the upcoming hoilday season? Yes, we are relaxing and eating with our family after the grind. We have an awesome, supportive family especially our 95 and 92 year old grandparents! 10. Tell me, do you believe in life after death? Opus: Yes we believe in something greater than us, but no one really knows. 11. How did the band name come about? Look at answer #1 12. So, how would you describe your sound to a stranger in three words? Metal Punk Crossover 13. If you were interviewing yourself, what question would you ask yourself? And what would the answer be? How long is your cock? Huge. 14. Time for a little word game. What are the first thoughts that come to your mind when hearing the names.... Alcohol: Metallica Idols: Dave Mustaine and Ozzy's love child Heavy Metal: Grimm Reaper and Dio's love child, no for real: Sabbath & Pantera Sports: Gameboy Food: Not Pizza unless it's from New Haven, CT Love: Bitches Success: Assholes Magazines: DBW front cover with ten naked teenaged whores, laugh out loud Punkrock: Fuck you 15. And finally to wrap things up, anything else you'd like to mention we haven't covered? Just more about our new CD.
