A Realization in Nine Movements
A review of End.>Vacuum posted by mrdave on October 22, 2008 11:56 PM
When: Aug 23, 2008 Venue: Royce Hall, UCLA Where: Los Angeles I went to this concert not knowing what to expect. All I knew was that the guitarist from Incubus (Mike Einziger) was going to be performing with an orchestra and that the opening act was going to be a lecture by a physicist. This ended up being my most unique and interesting concert experience and nothing like I expected. The biggest surprise of the night was that the performance was in 3D, everyone was given 3D glasses. The way the performers were light they were able to make them appear as a hologram and behind them 3D "psychedelic" images were projected. I expected the music to be something more in line with Mike's first side project Time Lapse Consortium and would be more along the lines of Incubus. The performance turned out to be just what was advertised a "9 movement orchestra piece" which I have to admit was dull at moments but redeemed by the fact it was in 3D. Brian Cox a physicist for CERN gave an interesting lecture explaining his role at CERN and the concept that space is a vacuum which was Mike’s inspiration for this side project. Unfortunately the usher did not let me take photos during the performance.
