Kingdom of Sorrow @ House of Blues Los Angeles

When: Nov 24, 2008 Venue: House of Blues LA Where: Los Angeles Jamey Jasta is someone who wears many hats and does it proudly. He made a stop with his latest project, Kingdom of Sorrow, which was met with anticipation from the crowd. But much like with his regular band Hatebreed, he managed to keep the crowd moving along with the band throughout the set. From the opening moments of their set, Jasta appeared on stage with a vengeance and got the crowd's attention. His stage persona vibed well with the crowd who were largely unfamiliar with the band's sound, but showed enough faith in Jasta's stage demeanor. His vocal style is somewhat different in Kingdom of Sorrow, where his vocal delivery falls more towards a sludgy-doom driven delivery ala Crowbar. Kingdom of Sorrow's sound is a lot more sludgy doom-oriented metal than the thrashy-hardcore metal sound that Jasta is known for with Hatebreed. In fact, the band's regular guitarist is Kirk Windstein of Crowbar (who was unable to tour with them due to prior commitments). His replacement for the tour was Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative, who fit the band perfectly. His playing style and the darker overtones in his sound worked well with the band, creating a dark, heavy vibe that kept the crowd wanting more. Plus guitarist Steve Gibb (Crowbar guitarist) blended in well, as the two guitarists managed to create a thick, dirty sound that was simply raw and heavy. Their brief setlist covered songs from their self-titled debut, such as 'Lead The Ghosts Astray' and the low end heavy 'Buried In Black,' where a circle pit was started on the floor. The band also covered Hatebreed's 'Last Breath,' which the fans always appreciate hearing. Kingdom of Sorrow showed a different side of Jasta's heaviness and a strong possibility of musical growth in his future endeavors.
