arcade fire kill it!
A review of Arcade Fire posted by notmike on October 23, 2008 5:41 PM
When: Jan 22, 2008 Venue: Enmore theatre Where: Sydney Previous night's show had Spoon open for AF (which was supposed to be awesome) but on this night, it was just AF flying solo. They opened with Wake Up and the entire crowd was won over -- the cult-like following AF has won is fully justified when you see them live and when you open as strong as they do, the whole evening goes from high to high to high. The Enmore has amazing acoustics (my first time there as i was visiting Sydney at the time) that really do justice do bands as dynamic and "live" as AF is. Tracks I didn't like so much from neon Bible (the show was mostly songs from Neon Bible) sounded like greatist hits moments. And greatest hit songs (funeral, rebellion (lies), intervention.... the whole set really) were among the finest live moments of music i have ever experienced. a song i didn't recognize until i tracked it down online after the show was headlights look like diamonds and it's amazing to hear an pre-fame tune evolve from what it was originally to what it has become as the band has grown in confidence, ability, and sophistication. intervention was the first track after a raucous encore. then laikka. then sadly the night was over. i'm sure many have seen AF live and will agree they are a once in a lifetime experience. it's like joining a spiritual cult for 90 minutes and been shown a bit of heaven. i almost wanted to become a groupie and abandon life as i know it to track around after the candians for a few months. great band, amazing show. here's the set list: Wake Up Keep The Car Running Black Mirror No Cars Go Haiti Black Wave/Bad Vibrations Neon Bible Age of Consent Ocean of Noise Tunnels The Well and the Lighthouse Headlights Look Like Diamonds (Antichrist Television Blues) Power Out Rebellion (Lies) encore: Intervention Laika pics nicked from this dude (who also wrote a great review -- better than mine): http://polaroidsofandroids.com/news/494/gig-review-arcade-fire-at-enmore-theatre.htm and also from this flickr album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/areminder/2211448831/
