During the late 1990s, Snot made quite the noise across the Los Angeles music scene. Their energetic, over the top sound matched their wild personalities off the stage. The world experienced this when they released their debut CD, Get Some, and on Ozzfest and tours with (hed)pe and Soulfly. Then the dream ended after the tragic 1998 death of frontman Lynn Strait when he was killed in a car crash.
Ten years later, Snot returns for a second lease on life and they brough back the energy that they once had. The band came out with 'Snot,' and the crowd reacted with circle pits opening up on the floor, and the rest of the room swaying along with their music. There was a certain feeling that Snot gave to fans when they played, and they haven't lost it even after ten years.
Replacing Strait is former Divine Heresy frontman Tommy Cummings, who did a superb job filling the shoes of their former frontman. He is in no way a Lynn Strait clone, but he commands the crowd upon impact. He got the crowd into the music right away, and never misses a beat. His large frame is quite agile for someone his size, but he does a great job at working the crowd in a way that fans were familiar with.
They covered much of the Get Some CD, as well as newer songs like 'The Band Plays On,' which has more of a faster punk feeling to it. But the highlight of the evening was when the band pulled the women in the crowd onto the stage to sing along to 'My Balls, Your Chin.' This song was always a fan favorite and it still leaves a lasting memory of the band's former frontman.
Snot's retuirn gives fans the sense that they are having fun with music again and they were sorely missed over the years. As for the future, there is talks of a new recording amongst other items. It will be seen what is to come from these guys.
