Why?
I saw that Boards events had been created in LA already and couldn't figure out why there was none in London. Crazy. So I guess I'll do the honors.
Scottish brothers, Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin Sandison, are Boards of Canada. The band was named after the national broadcasting group in Canada that provided public service announcements and instructional video. The lad spent a few of the early years in Canada before moving to Edinburgh when their family moved (back) there.
Anyway, BoC first came to my attention (and the attention of everyone I know) with their first proper debut album, Music Has the Right to Childen (which still holds the title for best album name ever in my book). The album was released by Warp although it was Autechre's SKam label that was the first proper label that BoC was released on.
A few EP's and two albums later and Boards of Canada are still one of the more mysterious acts in music. They keep a very low profile and don't play live. I think that's great but, at the same time, I'd love to see them play live and as when I noticed fans had been dropping contributions in the dropbox for the LA event, I appreciated what an extraordinary show BoC could put on if they brought the creativity of their bans to bear on the gig.
That's what Boards have been about for me. They inspire creativity in me. Subtle sound development, a unique palette of sounds, and fantastic song construction.
Anyway, nothing ventured nothing gained. Worth a shot and I like the fact that it's fan-driven. Let's see what we can see.
